Today I chose a new favorite stamp set to play with--Stampin' Up! Free as a Bird, in a cool. fresh color palette! You can see how I put this card together by watching the VIDEO, or just keep reading...
So I've been wanting to play with this stamp set for a couple of weeks and thought it would make a good one for Clean + Simple Sunday. I also wanted to show you that clean and simple cards can be created with patterned papers as well. Clean + Simple doesn't have to be white and boring.
So for these cards I worked with the Stampin' Up! color palette of pool party, smokey slate, whisper white and so saffron. I layered the DSP (designer series paper) from the 6x6 DSP packet in the "subtles" collection to a whisper white base card. I added a layer of smokey slate as a banner to help anchor the rest of the layers to the card. I used several punches to make this card:
* triple banner punch (to create the fish tail end to the smokey slate panel
* 2" circle punch to punch out the panel with the bird stamped on it
* the starburst punch to create the so saffron layer behind the 2" circle with the bird
* the leaf punch to punch out a vellum leaf trio as the accent on the card
Punches aren't cheap. They are definitely an investment in your crafting hobby. These 4 that I've listed above are probably my most used and I have never regretted the purchase. They make card-making very quick and easy.
Next, I stamped the bird image and the sentiment in Momento Tuxedo Black ink on whisper white card stock. I colored in the bird using the Pool Party Stampin' Blends alcohol markers with a little daffodil delight for his beak. I layered the stamped bird circle to the so saffron starburst punch with some dimensional adhesive, then glued on the sentiment strip. To decorate, I punched some vellum using the leaf punch and tucked those leaves under the bird panel. I added a rhinestone basic jewel as the finishing touch.
I hope you enjoyed the card today! What do you like about it? What color would you have chosen for the so saffron mat? This card design would be a great template for any stamp set.
