I couldn't resist playing with the Forever Fern bundle again, this time using non-traditional botanical colors as we make the transition from Summer to Fall... I chose a neutral card base of Whisper White and Smokey Slate and added the botanicals in Pool Party and Bumble Bee for an unexpected combination. It's colorful, but easy on the eyes.
This Forever Fern bundle is so incredibly versatile! I find myself using the leaf sprig dies in many projects. This week, in addition to showing you another clean and simple card, I also show you how to whip up a batch of shimmer mist to add a gorgeous sparkle to any card elements. If you prefer to watch the video, click HERE, otherwise keep reading and I'll provide the recipe for the shimmer mist below.
The first step in putting this card together is the stamping. You want to stamp out the botanicals, die cut them from the card stock using the coordinating dies and then spritz them with the homemade "shimmer mist".
Shimmer Mist Recipe
To create the "shimmer mist", you'll need a Stampin' Spritzer bottle, a jar of the Shimmer Paint in frost white, and a bottle of 70% Isopropyl Alcohol. You can get the alcohol from the first aid aisle of your local pharmacy or grocery store. Unscrew the cap and spritzer from the Stampin' Spritzer bottle and set aside. Pour 70% Isopropyl Alcohol into the mister bottle to 3/4 full. Carefully add 10 drops of Shimmer Paint by pouring it into the mister bottle one drop at a time. Replace the spritzer and cap and shake vigorously until alcohol and shimmer paint are mixed well.
You'll want to put the die cut images into a small box on a paper towel and spritz them 2-3 times with the mist from about 10" away. By putting them in a box to spritz them, you contain the spray and keep the shimmer where you want it, not all over the room. You don't want to saturate the dies, just coat them lightly with the mist and let them sit there to dry while you put together the rest of the card. The high alcohol content of the mist makes evaporation of moisture pretty quick. By the time you finish assembling the rest of the card, the die cut elements will be dry, very shimmery, and ready to attach.
The shimmer mist on this card is what really dresses it up, but if that's not enough "pretty" for you, the scalloped lace trim ribbon is just the right embellishment for this delicate card design. Adding a linen thread bow and few of the Artistry Blooms Sequins is the finishing touch, creating just the right amount of depth to the layers of embellishments on this card.
I hope you enjoyed the card this week!
