Today I'm sharing a fun watercoloring technique that actually uses your Memento Black ink pad, your Stampin' Up! ink pads and 99% Isopropyl Alcohol instead of water to paint on the color! To see this technique in action, you can watch the video, and for a closer look at the finished card, keep reading...
I've listed the supplies I used to create this card below. I started with a very simple base for this card---just a basic white card base measuring 11 x 4-1/4", scored at 5-1/2" to create a side fold landscape orientation. I cut a panel of Tea Boutique DSP in a subtle Petal Pink pattern to cover the entire card, giving the card a more smooth appearance. Althought I don't show this in the video, I took my corner rounder and rounded the top right corner. The images were stamped using Memento Black ink on Shimmery White card stock from Stampin' Up! This card stock is great for regular stamping and perfect for light watercolor/alcohol techniques. It's sturdy and holds up well with very little pilling as long as you don't use too much moisture.
The painting technique is similar to watercolor, however you'll get a much smoother appearance of color. Because you're using alcohol instead of water, the ink has a more smooth application, similar to a Stampin' Blends alcohol marker, but with a bit more control. The alcohol evaporates more quickly than water will dry so that makes alcohol an excellent medium for card-making. You can go back in with additional color soon after applying the first layer, to add depth and dimension.
I die cut a couple of the individual leaf detail dies using vellum card stock. Vellum is a subtle way to add texture and interest to a Clean + Simple card.
I cut a strip of Shimmery White card stock for the sentiment and added a few of the new Iridescent Pearl gems to finish off the design.
